About Me:

Hi, I’m Janette Shearer — a runner, NCCP-trained run coach, author, mom, creative, and someone who believes that life is best lived at your own pace.

My running journey didn’t begin with marathons or medals. In fact it started out the exact opposite. In 2016, I was kicked out of my very first running group by moms in my area for being “too slow.” I understand their reasons now, but at the time, it stung — a lot. But that moment planted a seed that I had no idea would change the trajectory of my life forever!

I could have walked away from running entirely, but instead, I decided to write my own story, one actual step at a time. Over the years, those steps turned into kilometres, and those kilometres eventually carried me across 10Km, half-marathon, and marathon finish lines. Today, I coach others to run in a way that feels good for them — whether that’s chasing a PR or just finding joy in moving their body.

My life online started in 2014, when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, Zoe. I was finally able to live out a childhood dream of becoming a writer. Back then, my blog was a space for motherhood stories — the raw, messy, and the magical sometimes lonely realities of raising kids. It was never about being a “perfect” mom or having all the answers, but about connecting through the shared experience of figuring it out as we went.

As my daughters have grown, so have I. My writing has expanded beyond the early days of motherhood into a space that reflects the many layers of who I am: a runner, a mindful living advocate, a traveller, a creative, and someone who cares deeply about sharing real, unpolished stories. I believe that authenticity matters — both online and off. If you’ve ever met me in person, you will know this to be true! I am very much a what you see is what you get kind of gal.

That means I don’t want to present a perfectly curated life to ensure I fit within a certain box. Instead, it means that I want to share the truth: the good runs and the terrible ones, the joy and the grief, the big wins and the days where it feels like I’m barely keeping up.

The past few years have tested me more than I could have imagined. In 2022, my family had to leave our home and community in Vancouver, a place we had built our lives for almost a decade. What followed was a period of disconnection, loneliness, and rebuilding. Trust me, it wasn’t easy. But in those seasons of change, I learned a lot about resilience — not the glossy, motivational-quote kind, but the quiet, unglamorous version where you just keep putting one foot in front of the other because you have no other choice.

That’s also how I see running. It’s not about perfection or even about constant improvement. It’s about showing up. On the days you want to, and on the days you really don’t. Running has taught me how to be present, how to listen to my body, and how to push through the hard moments — lessons that apply to just about everything in life.

Here on my blog, you’ll find a mix of running stories, training tips, travel adventures, reflections on mindful living, and personal insights from my own journey. Sometimes it’s serious, sometimes it’s lighthearted, but it’s always real. I want this to be a space where people feel seen and reminded that they’re not alone in whatever season of life they’re navigating.

Whether you’re here because you’re a runner looking for inspiration, a parent balancing a million roles, someone curious about mindful living, or just a fellow human figuring things out — you’re welcome here.

This is my space to share life as it is: messy, beautiful, exhausting, exhilarating, heartbreaking, and joyful — sometimes all in the same week. It’s not about chasing perfection. It’s about being present for the real moments, the ones that actually matter.

Thanks for stopping by, and for being part of this journey. I’m glad you’re here — and I hope you stick around as we keep moving forward, one step at a time.
